ΜΠΡΑΒΟ ΝΙΚΟΛΕΤΑ

Our special village of Poros- with Dimitri already back in NY, he has inspired me to continue his mission, Project Clean Kephalonia. Today, I went for a run along beautiful Limenia and picked up bottles and plastic, filling two big bags full, with so much more to do! I was all ready with my liquids to hydrate, and bags, but didn't have gloves- so I went to Dimitra's Supermarket on my way. Dimitra was working today...it was my first time meeting her..and when I told her what I was doing, she said to me, "please, if you find bottle caps, bring them to me. I collect them and give them to a charity that provides people with disabilities free wheel chairs." I had no words..I told her, I'll be back with caps. I returned after collecting bottles, and couldn't believe how many bottle caps I found.
When I returned to give her the caps..she stopped what she was doing..and thanked me so much. I told her about Achilles..and her face lit up, and then she told me a story- she used to teach, and many years ago she was called to someone's house to teach a boy- he was 10 at the time, and what she didn't expect was that he was disabled, couldn't walk or have use of his hands- she said that his physical therapist told her, encourage him, and keep encouraging him. Dimitra continued to teach him for years, and said that his mother was amazing..so patient..and there for him- and today he's 35 and teaching children with disabilities. She began to tear up telling me the story, and I did as well- I'm so inspired by Dimitra..and with the same name as Dimitri..it all comes together- it just takes one to have an impact on so many..so many children, the environment, individuals with disabilities, all living things..humanity..let's all come together to have an even greater impact.
Please join Project Clean Kephalonia- meet Monday, 9/28 at 7am at Fotis Family, Poros
